Apparently It Was Offensive

NIKE announced that they were pulling three prints ads for their new Hyperdunk shoes because images of opposing players catching a face full of crotch was said to play “off some viewers’ homophobia”

Really?  Who knew.  Does that line of thinking apply to this?

Probably not though I imagine Greg Paulus and the 9000+ Duke fans in attendance were no doubt deeply offended.

To quote The Simpsons Monty Burns “Excellent…”

Do you think the manning brothers are Dook fans?

No, the Manning Bros played for David Cutcliffe and he brought them to the game so they could be seen on ESPN which serves as free recruiting ads for the Duke football program. I imagine the Manning Bros are Tenn and Old Miss fans respectively.

I was hoping for an “In Your Face” light blue pair of hyperdunks, and an “In Your Face” matching protective cup.

Love the faces of the Fans. They know it’s over.

You know, this is what Duke gets for trying to flop. Instead of playing coverage defense on this play, (which would probably have stopped the dunk, and may have made him pull up for a shot, or if Danny continued to drive would have been fouled and have had to make his shots at the line) he tries to stand in the way in order to draw a possible charge by way of flop, gets dunked on all over. This happens to them more often than any other major program. Of course, they do draw a lot of charges along the way, which is why they continue this philosophy of standing in the way and then falling down once contact draws near.

Roy was actually pissed off by the play because Ginyard passed the ball backwards which was the wrong decision. UNC had a four on one and Hansbrough was open to Paulus’ left so Ginyard should have driven in, drawn Paulus then passed off.

I was actually shocked that that play was not called a charge. As far as playing the sissy flop-and-sell-a-charge “defense” goes, it was executed perfectly by Paulus (and there was more actual contact on that play than on, for example, his VCU play).

    Uh, no he shouldn’t have!!

Just kidding THF. While that probably was the proper basketball move that Roy wanted to see take place here, every now and then the fans need a play designed just for them. That play, executed by the players in rebellion towards the coaching staff, was designed and had my best interest at heart. Thanks guys!!!

THF, you post that picture at the drop of a hat. I think maybe you’re addicted to it. Do you gaze at it for hours calling it, “Precious?” Perhaps there’s a 12-step you can start to manage your addiction.

Or, maybe it’s not such a bad problem to have. ;-)

The image I always have entrenched in my mind is the “show” that Vince Carter put on Duke back in 98. Just can’t stop someone when they’re in that “attack you” frame of mind.

Nah, I just have had legit reasons to post it. It is one of those moments because it is an awesome Tar Heel play and humiliates Duke at the same time. A rare combo.

I AM offended by the picture attached to this blog.

I saw the nike crotch ad in a magazine. While I didn’t think it was homophobic, I did think it was offensive because it was fairly disgusting to pose that. It also reminded me of Danny’s dunk, and I think the ad copied that dunk.

I just want to know where Paulus’ right hand is in the picture. You think maybe he’s trying to cop a feel? Or maybe he’s trying to find out if chocolate really does “melt in your mouth, not in your hand”. Wait, was that over the top?

  15. 15 WilfWilf

That was definitely over the top……

As soon as I stop laughing I’m gonna try and put it out of my thoughts ;>)

As for the title of this, “Apparently It Was Offensive”, you got that one right, it dadgum sure ain’t about defense.

    Dadgum Dookies ‘n’ thur flops.

That picture is always refreshing. Especially love the 3 dookie faces:
    1) White jersey to the left of singler’s head
    2) Steve-Nash-looking dude between singler’s head and Danny’s left bicep
    3) the girl to the right with ugly blue hair with cupped hands over her ears.

    Pure dread.
    As Keith says: it’s over.

I was kind of suprised to see the fool wearing sunglasses & a cowboy hat.
