Brandon Tate was recognized as the ACC Specialist of the Week which seems rather pedestrian description of the senior being the difference on Saturday. Tate recorded 397 total yards which shattered the UNC record set by Derrick Fenner in 1986 and come within a shoe string tackle of breaking the ACC mark.
Defensive lineman EJ Wilson share Defensive Lineman of the Week honors with GT’s Andrew Gardner. Wilson had eight tackles, three of them for a loss.
Definite silver lining off a game that offer much else besides the W.

These awards reflect the upside of this team. We had less than a stellar first game, but thoughts are, after a couple days that I’m glad the game went the way it did.
Had we come out and dominated 50 to zip I think the team and of course us fans would go into a hungry Rutgers game with a false sense of security. We know we have talent, big play guys and budding stars on defense.
Let’s wup up on Rutgers and bring VT into Kenan in what should be a great game.
Here’s hoping the McNeese game was an anomaly. It’s hard to pass too much judgment after one game, and at least we won. It’s a lot easier to examine your mistakes and work on solutions when you’re 1-0 versus 0-1. I also hope this lights a fire under certain people’s butts (i.e. Greg Little) to put their play where their mouth is.
I guess the Rutgers game will tell us what we need to know…
