At Least Ron Cherry Never Did This

This was during the LSU-SCAR game Saturday night where an SEC official inexplicably lays a shoulder into SCAR QB Stephen Garcia.  And for anyone who thinks it was an accident watch as he shuffles his feet to size Garcia up then delivers the blow.  It will be interesting to see how the SEC responds to this.  I would think termination would be in order but given that college football officiating coordinators love spin general referee bufoonery on the field he probably gets off with just a one game suspension.

  • This just adds to my argument that officials are just like any other fan. They have a team that they like/enjoy and there is no escaping it. Fortunately for us, in terms of basketball, there are checks & balances to this. Years come & go where you can sense that a majority of officials either like us or don’t. I always got the sense that during the 80’s, we could just about count on getting the call, or they would at least allow us to play tougher defense than our opponents, resulting in less fouls called on our guys. I do not think it is currently that way though, as teams are generally allowed to play us very physical, usually not resulting in a lot of fouls called against our opponent. It seems to me that any time we venture out of the ACC, we get better officiating. But like all things, the pendelum will swing back in our favor at some point.

  • I can’t believe I am the only one who has commented on this.

I don’t know what to say. If he ever officiates another game it’s crazy.

According to the SEC and Spurrier, he did nothing wrong and there will be no penalty.
