Or something like that. Prepare yourself for the parade of Gary Parrish preseason predictions and rankings. His preseason Top 25 has UNC #1. Shocking, I know. He also takes the same angle on the whole undefeated talk I have taken and that is UNC could go perfect but is all likelihood it won’t happen. Parrish basically says that the odds of it happening are not great but you might be insane if you do not at least think it is possible. I suppose that makes Roy Williams insane because there is a greater chance he will drink a Pepsi than buy into this undefeated talk.
Of course Parrish makes the logical argument that if UNC returns everyone stronger and older plus adds a great set of freshman while everyone else had major attrition forcing them to fill their ranks out with freshman not nearly as good as the ones we saw last season, why not pick UNC to win it all while going undefeated? Good question, except UNC is not going undefeated which is why Parrish says they will win the title at 38-1.
I can live with that as long as that one is not versus Duke.

If UNC lost 3 games to Duke, but won the title, I’d deal…
(Just don’t bother speaking to me on 2/12, 3/9, or 3/16!!)
Playing off my previous post, what would other THFer’s take:
A) 35-3, National Title, 3 losses to Duke.
B) Similar record, 3 wins against Duke, Loss in the Final 4 (not to Duke).
National title, hands down. That will last forever.
Honestly, I would be more than ecstatic with either outcome, however, IF I could be picky, obviously I would choose the title…I have to agree with Passer – the NCAA lasts forever!!!
The 1 will be Notre Dame in Maui. The basketball team comes storming back in the second half to rip the lead away, atoning for the football team’s inability to take care of the ball.
Or not. ND is a terrible team on the road.
I am actually thinking the Michigan State game might be the one. I actually think they will get tagged with two losses total. One non-conference, one in the ACC.
Undefeated, Smun-defeated. The title is all we want. Give me a great effort night in and night out and the W’s will come. Someone always gets hot against us. I always love a loss near the end of the season anyways. Gives Roy something to Harp on and gets the thought of unbeatable out of there head. We have all the weapons to get it done this year.
And UCLA #1? He’s just trying to make an interesting column
UNC didn’t win the ACC tournament in ‘05 or ‘93, so yeah, I’d take a national championship over losses to Duke. Is it unsportsmanlike to root against other teams? I’d root against Kentucky (so UNC can reclaim the lead in terms of all-time b-ball wins) and agains Duke winning another nationcal championship — ever.
Arguably, Memphis should have gone undefeated last year and they played a decent schedule.
I will always take a loss during the regular season over a loss during the tournament.
It’s just too hard to go undefeated in college bball today. There are too many good players out there. All it takes is a cold shooting night by the Heels and a hot night for a good opponent. However, tourney time is where our quality depth should hopefully make us unstoppable. We ought to be able to run teams ragged, especially during a 3-4 day tournament like the ACC.
I’ll take some losses if we win a title, even to Dook. I would also like it to be known that I hope Dook never wins another game in any sport ever again. I’m almost getting that way with the Pack after I have spent time on blogs reading how much they hate UNC.
National Title… always.
The only reason this is even an issue this year is that we have the senior class undefeated in Cameron riding on the first game and Senior Night (and possibly a perfect regular season) riding on the second.
But still… it would almost be worth hearing the Dookies say, “Yeah, well, you won the national title, but Tyler lost in Cameron.” Less appealing, but still amusing, “Yeah, well, you won the national title, but we ruined Tyler’s senior night. Somewhere, JJ is smiling.” (Insert “smiling from the Sweet Sixteen Loss / NBA bench jokes here)
Regardless of what happens in Cameron this season, Tyler and Co still own a winning mark there. Should they lose they are still 3-1 in the building for their careers.
Whats with all this talk about losing 3 games to Duke?!?! No way in hell that happens. Maybe one, MAYBE. But no way will we lose 3. But THF is right, one loss each out of conference and in conference, with the in conference loss coming just before the ACC tourney. And it WILL be good for us, assuming that Roy can do a better job of managing momentum than he did last season. Dont’ worry though, he will.
I could be wrong here, We have won three straight with Tyler in Cameron but have we won one at home with him?
Yes, Tyler and Co are 3-0 at Cameron, 1-2 at home versus Duke. The one win at home was The Elbow Game.
Imagine if Rasheed Wallace had be Elbow’ed like that by a Dookie in his day
To respond to Keith’s post.
Go out in style Tyler. Do not let’em pounce all over you. Do what Rasheed didn’t do. It’s OK to get a little “psycho” every once in a while. A few bows while banging in the paint shouldn’t get you suspended. Besides, we should be up 15-20 on these cats anyway.

Amen, Tyler has the most contained aggression I’ve ever seen.
