UNC Promises Kenan Stadium Is No Longer A Death Trap

I kid, I kid.

UNC says they have fixed the lights and I presume the electrical system in general since that was a problem during the McNeese St. storm.  They also repaired the falling concrete which fell during that same game. Between the bad weather, skydivers missing the stadium and ending up in Durham with the game ball instead and banks of lights going out, UNC has had some fairly eventful home games.  At this rate UNC is going through their own version of the ten plagues.  Here is hoping frogs and locusts are not next.

Next up, a hail of extra point kicks (following TD’s of course) from the home team and a point drought for the Irish.

Actually I thought there was a bigger problem Saturday when the second bank of lights went out, but I since learned they shut those lights off in order to restart the first bank. Looks like it was just a faulty breaker.

I’m a volunteer usher at Kenan and one of the problems we’ve encountered this year are tighter rows due to sellouts and large turnouts. You’d think this would be a blessing, but the bleacher seats were designed for the average American probably 40-50 years ago. Some patrons and families are so large that they actually take up extra seats and its difficult for everyone who has a legitimate seat in a row to actually fit in there. I hope this is addressed when the stadium renovations increase seating capacity in a few years.

    PRG,
Was your tongue in your cheek when you typed the above post? Maybe the concessions folks can stop selling peanuts and soft drinks and switch to salads and low-fat smoothies.

PRGuy, we had that same problem Saturday night. We had aisle seats (the seats next to us were the bolted in cushioned ones) and there was only was enough room for one of us to sit. By some miracle the two people beside us didn’t show up, and we were able to be comfortable.

That’s why I like the cushioned seats. We’ve always had problems with people crowding our seats (thankfully we are all relatively small), but the new seats allow us to clearly define our “space”. And besides, they’re a lot more comfortable than the bleachers.

We bring our seat cushions and it does help define our space. PR makes a great point. There are two women on our row who literally take up 2 seats a piece. I did notice that the guy at the end of our row sits with his feet in the aisle because has about 6 inches of space.

This has not been a problem the last few years ;-)
Fortunately the Heels are giving us plenty of reasons to stand up!
