High stakes game in Miami tonight.
All five matchups are interesting. From the view in Chapel Hill, what happens between Virginia Tech and Miami is very likely the whole ball of wax as far as the Heels’ roadmap to Tampa. Virginia Tech will face Duke then Virginia to close out their season so the Thursday night tilt with the Hurricanes, over whom UNC owns the tiebreaker, is the last best chance for the Heels to get a clear path to the ACC title game. Should the Hokies lose UNC would take the field against Maryland in control of their own destiny. Granted if they give in to fear and anger it will forever dominate that destiny but one thing at a time.
On other fronts, Clemson would very much like to beat Duke and anyone who says they thought either of these teams would be where they are at now was probably engaging in illicit drug use.
Wake Forest still can win the Atlantic as can Florida State but both need to take care of NCSU and Boston College respectively. NCSU has pass defense woes so maybe Jim Grobe will loosen Riley Skinner up to pass more. BC is not fast enough to handle FSU so that should not be an issue for the Seminoles.
And UNC goes to Maryland to apparently play in front of a scant few UNC fans who will be too engrossed in the UNC-Penn basketball game on TV to worry about football. *end sarcasm*
Miami 21 VT 20
Clemson 28 Duke 20
Wake Forest 31 NCSU 10
FSU 38 BC 20
UNC 34 MD 28
Record Last Week: 3-3
Record This Season: 51-28

I shall be dutifully pulling for VPI to get slaughtered by the Ibises.
I hate to say it, but as long as UNC football is winning, it will be front & center til season’s end. This is no knock on our great basketball team though, as I will watch both as long as the schedule allows. We need a Miami win and a Duke win this weekend, I also hate to say that too.
I’m with you JBowling. As much as I love UNC Hoops, I can’t be completely devoted until football is over. Go Miami and heres to hoping we can pull off yet another road win this seaon. Cheers! And just a question but why do we need a Duke win this weekend? It hurts to write Duke and win in the same sentence…
I hope you’re right about the Miami game tonight, THF. Going to the ACC Championship game would be wonderful. Maryland is a schizophrenic team, seems like they’re difficult to predict. Best win of the year for the TarHeels was last week against GT, I hope that means the Heels are getting better each week……….
The NCAA regular season doesn’t start for me until after the “winter holidays,” even if the football team is doing well. Sure, it’s nice to get to see the occasional great match up (e.g., UNC-UK) and odd early conference game. Still, I can’t really focus on UNC hoops until after the tree comes down.
THF, I don’t see how you’ll do it–covering both football and basketball–without burning out if both squads remain nicely ranked in their respective polls over the next few seasons and beyond. Hope so.
A Duke win would give VT a loss, which would give them one more loss than us. Since they hold the tiebreaker, we need them to lose.
Wouldn’t a Dook win give Clempson a loss? If not, I’m confused.
Would not want Dook to win under any circumstances, in anything, ever!
I don’t want Dook to win either. In anything… A Dook win this week would mean a Clemson loss. Which means absolutley nothing to us. Virginia Tech got beat by Miami last night 16-14 which puts us in control of the Coastal Division. Dook and VT don’t meet until next week. Since we hold the tie breaker with Miami in head-to-head competition we will be in the ACC championship if we can win out the remainder of the season.
