HALFTIME: UNC 45 UCSB 37
Heels have been sloppy, the offense has been poorly executed. The trio of Lawson-Ellington-Green have finally shown up. Hansbrough is having trouble getting going, mainly because they are hacking him as soon as he touches the ball. Hansbrough has 11 and five boards, four of them offensive. The defense for UNC has horrendous but UCSB is a hot team.

For those of us who don’t have ESPNU the rest of you can give us visual observations.
Also, Tyler Hansbrough starting.
Anyone who does not have ESPNU, go to Channelsurfing.net. You can watch the game online there.

1:14 in an Tyler is going to the line… all is right with the world…
And here come 2 more!
And now he goes head first into the basket stand… 2 more FTs..
I found it online so I am watching it now.
ESPNU announcers suck.
I don’t know who these announcers are but they are openly pulling for an upset here. Geez. Shut up already about it.
The refs must be from the West Coast.
Hansbrough is not getting a lot of touches and is obviously rusty. Good thing he brought him back tonight. At least they have another game before facing another legit opponent.
Jay Williams? Oh great! That explains why his voice rises when talks about UCSB leading the game.
Looks like Lawson has finally answered the bell.
You don’t recognize the nasal squeak? Why that’s Jason Williams.
Wow. The play-by-play guy sounds depressed now UNC is back up nine points.
To sum up for those who cannot see:
Lawson looks much better and is playing good defense.
Hansbrough is clearly out of sync.
Everyone else is doing fine. UCSB came out hot and playing on adrenaline. Now UNC’s talent and depth are starting to overwhelm them. Not a big deal since this is a true road game.
on-line link? oops-never mind.
Not sure how they get away with streaming ESPNU but I ain’t complaining. Nice surprise for me this evening.
likewise–I picked my son up a few minutes ago and caught part of the first half at his friends house. UCSB is certainly a game team. that 7′3″ dude is pretty mobile for his size.
Thank you so much for sharing that link!!!
I just got home from work and checked ESPN gamecast at the 2:16 mark they have Tyler Zeller making a shot?????
Well he was at the game sitting beside Marcus Ginyard on the bench.
Thank goodness I get ESPNU……
UCSB was hot in stretches, ice cold in others. I forgot UCSB beat UNLV back in the early 90’s when they were highly ranked (maybe even #1).
It seemed like there were chemistry problems with Hansbrough on the court for some reason. They were playing so well without him, and now it looks like they had to do some major adjusting with him in there. Add to the fact that Tyler is obviously rusty, and I think this explains the game.
The big thing is that I think they were looking ahead to Maui. Whether it was the beach of the basketball games remains to be seen, but this team obvoiously wasn’t focused very well in the first half.
Two things real quick; I’m turning into a big fan of Ed Davis. It’s great to see another frontcourt player besides Hansbrough hit a free throw. He also runs the floor extremely well and isn’t afraid to knock around (or get knocked around) to get to the ball. Larry Drew looks like he’ll be good next year. He doesn’t really have the speed of a Felton or Lawson, but he’s got amazing potential.
Actually, it seemed to me that Jay Williams was rooting for Carolina. He said he wished Roy had recruited him and has openly gushed over Tyler and said something to the effect that this year is Tyler’s time to win it all.
