I Don’t Recall Him Being That Impressive

I am referring to Kentucky’s Jodie Meeks who dropped 54 on Tennessee last night.  My first reaction when seeing it on ESPN.com this morning was: “Who?”  It turns out Meeks is averaging 25 ppg but when UK came to Chapel Hill he only had 19 on 5-20 shooting.  He also committed 6 turnovers.  Not a memorable night and I am shocked.  Shocked I tell you that he did not do something like this when he played UNC since Carolina blue has been scientifically proven to increase an opposing player’s shooting accuracy and general ability to go nuts in the scoring column.

  • I had the same reaction when I saw this on ESPN.

  • I am not sure how many folks on this board play or played basketball, but the feeling of “being in the zone” is a very unreal experience. You don’t have to think about how you are going to score; your body just sort of takes over and you start knocking down shots. It could happen for any talented basketball player on a given night.

  • “It could happen for any talented basketball player on a given night.”

    Usually happens against UNC.

I was in a zone once…lasted about two minutes.

  • They very well could have beaten Louisville. Everybody forgets about that game as a quality win without Hansbrough! UK is now number 22 in Pomeroy. No wonder our Pomeroy ranking is standing up. He rates us higher in years where we lose a few like this year and 2007, versus last year where we all thought his ratings had factors that were skewed against UNC.

UK has beaten West Virginia and Tennessee, their fellow hillbilly nation programs to ….. (add punch line here).

  • “Carolina blue has been scientifically proven to increase an opposing player’s shooting accuracy and general ability to go nuts in the scoring column.”

    Not as much as a Bruce Pearl-coached team’s defense…

Scored 46 of my team’s 54 points in a rec league game once. That’s about as close as I got.

  • Heel fan here in Louisville, Ky. The kid is very much for real. He was hurt last year but had a solid freshman year. It must have been Ellington’s smothering defense when we played them.
