Disappointment Defined
Knowing you just spent a month living in a tent before going through the
process of putting on body paint, showing up two hours before the game to
stand all night in a hot gym only to watch your team get rocked by UNC
and then have to go spend who knows how long washing
all that crap off must really, really suck.
And if this guy is a senior, multiply that by four.

THF,
That’s the best thing I’ve seen and read all morning!!! That’s a classic picture and write up. I couldn’t stop laughing!!!! Go HEELS!!!!!
“Duke fans believe spending 196 hours in a tent indicates passion and devotion. Carolina fans believe 196 hours in a tent indicates a telling lack of other social engagements. The undergrads inhabiting Tent 1 in Krzyzewskiville staked their claim on Dec. 26, 47 days ago. Added over four years of college life, that’s 188 days–over half a year–in a tent to watch four losses.” ~~Adam Lucas
You can tell Lucas REALLY enjoyed doing his write-up after this one…
“After joining forces with photographer extraordinaire John Lyon to snap the photo you see here, I walked back into Cameron. On the way–and I promise this is true–I actually walked by a guy in a Christian Laettner jersey who was practicing his floor slap. I am not making this up. I could not have made something like this up even if I wanted to. His line-mates were egging him on, advising him on how he could improve.”
This is all kinds of awesome, as is Lucas’ write up. I am having a lot of trouble not going into the next office over from mine to harass the dook fan in there…cause you KNOW he’d be doing it to me if the tables were turned.
Did anyone see the picture of the sign at Cameron Indoor Stadium that was changed to Hansbrough Indoor Stadium? I loved how Ty Lawson ran down the court near the end and had him a nice 2 handed dunk to basically seal the deal.
That dunk accounted for our 99th and 100th point. A very simple dunk but a real exclamation point.
Statefansnation had a particular problem with Herb Sendek for characterizing a UNC-State basketball game, “as just another game.”
Did any of you guys notice that K said the same thing before last night’s game?
Hansbrough Indoor Stadium – This is where I saw the photo: http://www.850thebuzz.com/blog/?p=7646
Caption for ^ “Damn, this isn’t worth $39,000 per year tuition.”
I actually feel sorry for the Dookies. Isn’t there a saying somewhere that God first makes proud those whom He destroys?
You mean like George Bush with his “political capital” back in 2005?
Great great great! I laughed my butt off. I was in APE and a dook fan who was going on about how dook was going to massacre UNC told me that next time dook would contol Ty and Tyler would “get no more lucky threes”. I told him that dook had no answer for Ty now and they never will. I also told him that no one could control Psycho T. He stuck his tounge out at me. High school guys are so immature sometimes.
william — No, I mean like an administration that nominates folks to be Cabinet secretaries who haven’t paid the taxes they would raise for other people.
And now, if we could, back to basketball….
Yeah, let’s leave political analogies out of it.
I understand a coach trying to de-emphasize a game. But there is no way anyone can say these are just other games. People don’t take to the streets, burn cars, paint faces, wear costumes for “just another game’s” sake.
Spot on, JBowling, as to both of your comments.
Thank you sir!
I actually feel sorry for George Bush. Well, sort of.
I am just trying to follow the analogy, but I am not sure that the rejoinder fits. If not having someone confirmed is the worst thing to happen to Obama, then he will have the easiest administration in history.
If you had told someone that Coach K would never win another national title back in 2001 or told George Bush when he made his political capital remark that his party would lose Congress and the Presidency, back in 2005, people would have thought you were crazy.
Two outspoken Republicans, after appearing invincible, Coach K and Bush, did not had a good four years from 2005-2009. The same Coach K who told Roy Williams that if he ever turned up in the ACC, that he would whip his ass, and the President who urged his opponents, to bring it on.
The point about hubris is a good one, in my opinion, but if people are going to get pissy, then maybe we should not only drop politics, but also drop the reference to God getting involved in basketball, so why not just lighten up in general.
At least K did have partial success in his vacation job, getting a bronze and a gold.
Maybe Bush should go back to running the Texas Rangers. He was pretty good at that. The Rangers are known as one of the greatest franchises in the history of major league baseball and were the place where A-Rod learned the ropes of major league baseball success, eh, maybe not such a good idea for George.
Here is the problem…any introduction of topics like politics or religion in a forum like this quickly spirals out of control and I would just rather not go there.
THF — Correct.
william — “If you had told someone that Coach K would never win another national title back in 2001…people would have thought you were crazy.”
That’s why I didn’t tell them. Nor is it clear to me that Coach K will “never” win another national title, although he’s certainly not going to win it this year.
