Update: The N&O is saying that Tyler Hansbrough’s shin injury ultimately nixed the 2005 vs 2009 matchup so they formed the teams using a draft instead.. Also, the game will not be televised or on the radio because the NBA has rights over their players or something monumentally stupid like that.
These were set using a draft which had Phil Ford and Pat Sullivan picking players and Roy Williams playing the role of David Stern. Since they opted for this model we are denied 2005 vs 2009 goodness. Tyler Hansbrough will not play due to a shin injury so any 2005 vs 2009 matchup would have been pointless anyway. Here are the rosters via THB:
Blue Team
Shammond Williams
Ed Cota
Ty Lawson
Vince Carter
Dante Calabria
Jawad Williams
Wayne Ellington
Rashad McCants
Brandan Wright
Sean May
White Team
Brendan Haywood
Raymond Felton
Bobby Frasor
Jackie Manuel
Jeff McInnis
Danny Green
Marvin Williams
Rasheed Wallace
Antawn Jamison
Jerry Stackhouse
Interesting breakdown. This is clearly size versus shooters. Seriously, if the Blue team puts up less than 40 three pointers something is seriously wrong. The Blue team will have the #1, #2, #4 and #7 ranked players in Tar Heel history for three pointers made in a career. What’s more, with Lawson and/or Cota out there, the fast break is going to be something to watch, especially with Carter and Ellington running alongside. On the White team, not much in the way of shooters but challenging a frontline that includes Haywood, Jamison and Marvin Williams. Add Green, Wallace and Stackhouse to the mix for what is sure to be some imposing play on the interior. I would also venture to say the White team sets up as a better defensive unit with Manuel on the perimeter and three of the top ten in UNC history for career blocks with Haywood, Wallace and Green. But who am I kidding, no one is going to be playing defense in this game.

[...] Through the Tar Heel Fan blog I read that Hansbrough won’t play because of the shin injury. That makes sense, but why [...]
I am soooooo excited for this game! Does anyone know if Tyler’s still coming despite his injury? I would think yes since they’re unveiling the banner but I haven’t heard anything concrete. Anyone got an answer for me?
“No one is going to be playing defense in this game”
LOL! So true.
Mmmmkay, does anybody else feel like this is all a dream come true? I still can’t even wrap my thoughts around the fact that this game will actually be played…tomorrow night! I know it’s all fun and games, but seriously…I’m not taking a single second for granted in these days of “Blue Heaven on Earth.”
Oooohhh! Me! Dream come true cannot even begin to describe the way I feel about this game! Just think about it, if this is how the 100th year of Carolina basketball is going start, what could be in store for us next?
Sadly I got two tickets for this without remembering that I’m a high school football coach. So if anyone needs 2 tickets let me know.
I’m going to declare the “white” team the winners.
UNC33,
Check your email…I am interested.
According to Tarheelblue.cstv.com,Tyler, Huber Davis, Ademola Okulaja, Eric Montross and Julius Peppers will be on hand but will not play. Coaches on hand will include Phil Ford, George Karl, Larry Brown, etc. They just had the annnual coaches’ summit in Chapel Hill, so I wonder if people like Jeff Lebo, Scott Cherry, etc. will stick around as well. Did I read somewhere there was going to be a halftime dunking contest?
i’ll be there!
My insides are jumping around like this was for the championship. Got tickets, and I’m getting off work early. We plan on walking around Franklin street, grabbing a few beers, and basking in everything that is Carolina. Man this is going to be sweet!
Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina.
There’s no way to watch this game online or anything? Congrats to all that got tickets to this epic game.
Can’t wait for the after post. All you posters should meet somewhere. Have a blast.
Is MJ going to attend??
If you attend PLEASE take plenty of pictures to share with us unfortunates who can’t go!
What are the stipulations for cameras in the Dome?
“What are the stipulations for cameras in the Dome?”
“CAMERA/VIDEO EQUIPMENT: Video cameras, audio equipment and cameras with professional lenses larger than 55mm are prohibited at all times. Small point-and-shoot cameras and cameras with lens in the range of 50-55mm are allowed at Carolina basketball games. Flash photography is not allowed. Some non-basketball events allow cameras, so please call 919-962-7777 to see if your event applies. NO LASER POINTERS.”
Might want to call that number and make sure you can bring one.
THF – Thanks. I called and they said no video equipment, but cameras are allowed, but no camera pods/stands/etc…
Can’t wait to get a high def pic of banner #6! My wife, who is a diehard Dookie will just love it, I think.
what “We (heart) Harrison Barnes” signs are we allowed to bring?
or “This is WAAAYYYY better than Dook, Harrison” signs?
Wow…I’m all giddy inside, like a little kid! Man, this is cool! I will have to live vicariously through all of you who will be there. Have a few cold ones for me InRoyWeTrust…I’m loving your itinerary (for the evening).
Heel to the End,
I’m not completely sold on Harrison Barnes…while the thinking man in me says he should go to UNC, the fatalist in me is screamin “DOOK!” I just don’t know…this night is for those who have walked it…Final Fours, championships, all-americans, sick dunks, etc. Tonight, Harrison Barnes isn’t even a microscopic flea on the big picture of UNC basketball. He’s partaking in something really special. If he walks away from this thinking, “Hmmm, Dook sounds a lot better” then he is absolutley mental.
I’m going with some friends and relatives, some of them have never even been in the Dean Dome before! This is fantastic! Seriously the most exciting thing I’ve done since we won the championship!
“There’s no way to watch this game online or anything?”
My understanding is that it’s the NBA that won’t allow TV or radio broadcasting or streaming of this game.
The SID was just on 850 the Buzz and definitely said bring your cameras. They will have all the players line up and face both sidelines for photo ops.
