Quinn Named ACC Defensive Lineman Of The Week

Another defensive accolade for UNC, this time sophomore Robert Quinn who has been tearing it up all season:

DEFENSIVE LINEMAN – Robert Quinn, North Carolina, DE, So., 6-5, 270, Ladson, S.C. (Ft. Dorchester)
North Carolina sophomore defensive end Robert Quinn found his way into the Blue Devil backfield for three sacks, another 1.5 tackles for loss, and six quarterback hurries in the Tar Heels’ 19-6 win over Duke. Quinn had seven total tackles, a forced fumble, and a fourth-down pass break-up to lead the North Carolina defense in limiting Duke’s potent passing attack to 113 yards and giving up just 125 yards overall. Quinn is ranked fifth nationally with 15.5 tackles for loss and sixth with 10.0 sacks.

Quinn is a beast and the best defensive linemen in the ACC behind Georgia Tech’s DeAndre Morgan. In fact, Quinn’s 10 sacks is fifth most for one season in UNC history behind Lawrence Taylor(16), Julius Peppers(15), Greg Ellis(12.5) and Hilee Taylor(10.5). Getting your named mixed in there with Lawrence Taylor and Julius Peppers is high praise indeed.  Oh, Quinn’s only a sophomore. Be afraid ACC, be very afraid.

High praise and well deserved. With his speed and strength I could see him setting the all time UNC record for sacks if he stays healthy.

I was hoping Ryan Houston would get offensive back of the week, but then CJ Spiller had to go all CJ Spiller over FSU’s weak D.

Nice review of the stats and it’s certainly well deserved for Quinn. The one thing that jumps out at me is the number of tackles and size of LT when compared to Peppers. I’ve seen quite a few games with Peppers in action and he was so fast, I just can’t imagine what it was like to see LT in person destroying the opposing offense. Not to mention just how frightening he is.

They modified some of the videos they show during the games last week with LT added to “I’m a Tar heel” and some other ones. You really can’t appreciate contradiction between the sedate “I’m Roy Williams and I’m a tar heel, (MJ) I’m a tar heel then cut a raging LT without audio to close out the clip. Just fantastic.

Mr Quinn said “hello” to Thadeus this past weekend a few times and if the Heels have a chance against Miami, it will take a few visits from Mr Quinn to Jacory Harris to make that happen.

Playing against Lewis and Harris will help the Heels prep for Russell Wilson.
