The Ty-Ty-Wayne-Danny Report

Just how are Tyler Hansbrough, Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington and Danny Green doing?

GMSMPGFG%3P%FT%PPGAPGRPGTO/G
Ty Lawson1121.952%50%85%9.73.41.81.2
Tyler Hansbrough415.030%0%65%7.80.84.50.5
Wayne Ellington1116.232%25%62%4.70.92.00.9

Danny Green has only played one minute this season so he was not included on the chart.

Ty Lawson has gotten rave reviews so far, especially from Denver coach George Karl who famously does not play rookies. Lawson is now the #2 PG on the Nuggets behind Chauncey Billups(who was the PG on the Colorado team UNC beat for Dean Smith’s 877th win.) Lawson has been mentioned in Rookie of the Year discussions except for the fact that Milwaukee’s Brandon Jennings will probably end up winning it seeing he dropped 55 points the other night and chances are Jennings will continue to play well. Still, there were doubters who did not think Lawson could cut it.  So far it appears those folks are going to eat crow.

Tyler Hansbrough is  still working his way back from a shin injury. After a nice debut game, Hansbrough has struggled a bit shooting the basketball. Likewise Wayne Ellington is still getting acclimated to the league and also happens to be playing for a crappy team.

  • One point I saw someone make on Twitter last night after the game is that the Pacers are 4-0 when Tyler Hansbrough plays. Even if he didn’t score any points last night…he still seems to be contributing in some ways and the Pacers are on a great win streak.

Agreed on the comment about Wayne being on a crappy team.

As for Ty…did anyone REALLY think he wouldn’t blow up the NBA? I will admit that dunk last week was sick, yet somehow classic Ty.

  • Ty is having a nice year, but if Jennings continues to average 25 and 5, no one else is getting a vote for ROY, nor should they.

Lawson did not have a great scoring game last night, but there are other parts of his game that make Tar Heel fans proud. He drove all the way to the basket on a couple of occasions and kicked it out to an open 3 point shooter, no look and all within the flow of the game. The ‘on-the-court’ chemistry is coming along.
Secondly, Ty’s defense is fundamentally sound and pretty darn good. Bigger guards try to post him up but he is so low to the ground and strong that they can not root him out of position; plus, he moves his feet so well when guarding someone 1-1.
Would love to see DfG and Ty go against each other, but for some reason Cleveland tickets are hard to get.

Thanks for the link. I have been wondering if there was a site to check the status on our boys in the NBA.

More proof Goodman is a biased blow-hard. This fool writes this week that Carolina isn’t a Final Four team and drops them in his weekly top 25 rankings, after a couple of games watching this team try to find itself and adjust to life without the 4 players above that are now in the NBA.

On the other hand, Kansas, which returns its entire team, struggles and survives against an inferior Memphis team. Kentucky, which has alot of new parts trying to fit in like Carolina, needed a last second shot to beat a middle of the road MAC team. So where are the articles about how these teams aren’t FF teams?

Point being, it is too damn early to write any team off as a title contender. It’s freakin November not January for pete’s sake. And I get so tired of writers like Goodman, who try to use a point in time to justify their preconceived notions and hopes of future outcomes.

So are you saying Hansbrough brings good luck to the Pacers?

Been ages since I’ve seen anything from The Fifth Corner. Just an empty RSS feed. I clicked it, and got an XML error. Then I checked their RSS feed manually, and it starts with “XML Parsing Error” so they’re off the air … if you are used to getting new articles pushed with RSS. Off the air? Maybe they’re being run by the Tar Heel Sports Network?

Hans-brah only 65% from the stripe?

Hey now! Nothing negative about Tyler.

He just took 3 months off. First time this lifetime!

    UNC Fan:

I moved from blogspot to Wordpress. You probably still have me on the old one. I been doing recaps of the games of the ex Heels in the NBA for each and every day this season.

    THF:

Thanks for the link, it is much appreciated, and thanks for posting that dunk by Lawson!

I love getting up in the morning and turning on ESPN and seeing Ty on Denver’s highlight reel. And again, Wayne’s on a crappy team. The bad thing about Danny getting drafted by the Cavs is that they weren’t really looking for people to come and play right away. : (

Tyler’s unbeaten streak is over. they lose at home tonight to the KNICKS. ugh.
he had a good game, tying his sophomore SEASON total in assists with 3.
    i kid!

When I saw the title of this thread I thought “Now why is THF using my nickname for Tyler” then I realized he was abbreviatng Tyler’s name as “Ty” not calling him “Ty-Ty”.

    I was disapointed.

    Thanks for posting this THF!

HTTE: It was our fault, we were talking about the streak. Like when Woody talks about some player’s great stats at the foul line, they always miss their next free throw. EVERY FRICKIN’ TIME!

I actually have read some good things about Danny so it must have been a pretty good minute!

  • I think Danny will be there eventually. They did give him a contract and he has the tools to be a good NBA player. Right now he just does not have a spot but I think his day will eventually come.

If anyone doubts the level of competition in the NBA, I don’t think any of us would have predicted that a guy like Marvin Williams would end up being basically a journeyman NBA starter.

Just to start on a decent NBA team takes an amazing amount of talent and skill, so even to make any squad in the NBA is quite an accomplishment.

I personally think Danny has the tools to be the best pro player out of all of them. He is the perfect height and wingspan for a wing (2 or 3) guy in the NBA and he is a stat sheet stuffer. He is stuck behind Lebron freaking James, who plays almost 40 minutes a game. He’ll get his shot sooner or later and Danny will definitely take advantage of it.
