Today’s game illustrates why we’ll miss TH for more than his scoring and rebounding. He was the model of concentration and focus that we lacked today.
Much of what ails us right now is inexperience. Unfortunately, we don’t have much time to correct the problem.
This team has a world of talent; if aggregate talent were the only thing involved, I’d have to say we have as good a chance as anyone to win the national championship. But if our level of intensity and grit does not improve, we are in for some rude surprises and an early exit from the NCAA tournament.
HTTE: Um, I beg to differ! I hate dook more than anyone, including you. At the age of four I tried to kill my sister after she said “I like dook.” My sister was two. Can you top that?
Rath: I agree, but I think the guys are starting to get it now. After the game everyone was really down and self critical. This game should be a motivating factor in the future.
hm. seems the only way i could top that is by going back in time and actually killing your sister.
to the la-BOR-a-tory!
but seriously, i hate Dook more.
No, no I don’t think so. You may have hated dook longer but I hate dook more.
We need to settle this somehow…
exhibit A: i’m on top of Dook losing in ANY sport, as i just showed a few posts ago.
Dook Sucks!
then there’s my collection of hats. i buy the hat of the school that eliminates Dook from the NCAA each year. i’ve started going back to earlier years, and i’ve started putting the year and score on them.
yeah, baby. hate.
My dook fan health teacher my freshman year in highschool called my parents because because he was openly bashing UNC and praising dook. I kinda sorta talked back. I ended up out of my seat and raising my voice.
I stopped doing that when I realized that the consequences are greater than the gains. Now I just break pencils. But that’s not the point.
Sorry HTTE and uncgirl50, but my neighbor hates dook more than both of you. The day that I met him he saw that I had a UNC hat on and told me how much he loved the Heels. He then proceeded to tell me how much he hated dook. He said that he hates dook so much, that if dook was playing the Ku Klux Klan, he’d pull for the Klan. And he is an African-American. I swear to God, true story. I’d say he hates dook.
“Strickland is Brickland at the Line.”
Interesting observation considering Strickland did not have a free throw attempt in the game.
I buy a newspaper after every dook loss, cut out the article and pin it on my bulletin board. I’ve also attached a picture of a blue devil to a dartboard and spent hours throwing darts at it.
i like HeelYeah’s neighbor. the last few years i’ve been saying if Osama Bin Laden fielded a team and they played Dook, i’d have to think about it.
I agree. If dook played a team that had every single person I dislike on it, I would have to think about who I would root for.
Patience. I see loads of potential. Last year, well last 2 yrs perhaps, has spoiled us. Give it time. C. Michael is exactly right. Many in the rotation, and that hurts consistency. Roy will get it done. We just may have to endure some frustrating nights. I just hate those late games though when they struggle, I never sleep. Ha!
Oops. Wrong Frosh. Make that:
McDonald is McDonut at the Line.
BreatheIfYouHateDook: Please, please, please spell doughnut right! If you have to call him that at least spell it right! Sorry, but I get really picky about things like that! By the way, great username!
Okay, after reading the game thread, watching the game and talking to my brother who was at the game, let me say some things first. The negativity is REALLY bugging me…Ha Ha Ha…
First of all, the early season is just that, the early season. Carolina is still trying to figure out which parts fit where, who plays well together so Roy can pare down the lineup when the real season starts in January.
Right now, Carolina is playing 11 guys. By the time the ACC regular season comes around, Roy will pare that down to about a 7-9 man rotation. So some of the things you are seeing now in terms of turnovers and bad play will not be happening once the rotation is pared down.
I very seriously doubt in ACC play we are going to see a lineup on the court of Strickland, McDonald, Wear, Henson and Watts, which for parts of the game was out on the floor together tonight.
Right now the starting lineup is: Drew, Graves, Thompson, Ginyard and Davis. I think the BEST lineup is: Drew, Ginyard, Zeller, Thompson and Davis; but whether Zeller starts or comes off the bench is irrelevant. I also would also like to see Henson in the game with the starters instead of the mish-mash lineups he is usually out there with.
I say all of this to say one, the sky is not falling. It is early season. Two, we played not great, and still scored 88 points and won by 11. Three, you can’t take one early season game and project what Carolina is going to do from there, just like you couldn’t take what happened at Maryland last year and predict Carolina was an early-out in the Tournament.
It’s early… The games are just starting and we haven’t even jelled yet. The season is a marathon, not a sprint. Last year early season we only beat Davidson by 9 points…
So, please step away from the ledge, and see that this is going to be a great team this season that has just a good a chance as anyone else of getting to the Final Four and cutting down the nets in April.
Listening to the comments from Ginyard and Drew after the game tell something about how things are now. Drew saw no leadup problems; Ginyard thought the team was not sharp. I am sure he was not shy before and after the game about this as well.
Just like the defense was a focus issue last year, concentration and execution may be this time.
But it is still very early. There is plenty of time for progress. It is nice to see the veterans playing well.
