Former Heels Sign As Undrafted Free Agents

With the NFL finally ending the lockout a number of undrafted Tar Heels from the 2010 team found homes on Tuesday. Here is the list via the News & Observer.

TE Zack Pianalto: Buffalo Bills
CB Kendric Burney: Carolina Panthers
RB Shaun Draughn: Washington Redskins
OG Alan Pelc: Oakland Raiders
OT Mike Ingersoll: Kansas City Chiefs

Being a Panther fan, I am really pulling for Burney to stick with the organization. No word on if Pianalto’s ankle held up after he celebrated signing with the Bills.

One name conspicuously missing from the list is Deunta Williams. The N&O’s Joe Giglio noted that Williams would take the entire 2011 season off to continue rehab on the leg he broke in the first half of the Music City Bowl in December. Williams had some complications during rehab with the leg and despite some interest from teams in his services has decided to get fully healthy before trying to catch on with a team.

In the world of former UNC players who were drafted, Robert Quinn is being sued by his former agent, Carl Carey whom Quinn fired last week. Carey is looking to recoup $300,000 he spent on Quinn and also the agent’s share of whatever contract Quinn signs. That slice is said to be in the neighborhood of $600,000. The downside for Quinn is the lawsuit might keep him from signing with the St. Louis Rams immediately which in this hectic preseason can’t be a good thing.
