Now My High School Football Team Is Under Investigation

I am posting this because it strikes me as both funny and ironic that not only is my favorite college football team being investigated but now the football team from my high school alma mater is facing a probe by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association.

WTSB News has learned South Johnston High School football coach Joe Salas has been suspended following an investigation by the NC High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA).  On July 19, the NCHSAA notified school officials of violations of the Association’s rules regarding the South Johnston football program.  Johnston County school officials declined to specify what those sanctions were, but Terri Sessoms, Public Information Officer, did confirm they are awaiting word on a possible fine.

Sessoms said, “Johnston County Schools takes matters of this nature seriously and is conducting a review of the issues.” Sources indicated the football program violated regulations for off season workouts because of body-to-body contact drills.

Efforts to reach Keith Durham, South athletic director, and Joe Salas, Trojans football coach, were unsuccessful Monday afternoon.

Rick Strunk, associate commissioner of communication for the NCHSAA, said it is customary for the school to release information if there are fines or penalties relating to a rules violation.

What the heck? Is Rich Rodriguez running the team down there? Of course football at South Johnston had been horrendous for many, many years. I think they had one playoff appearance when I was in school there back in the early 1990s. Two years ago they went to the state title game which was quite a turnaround from years of futility.

In looking for a common denominator between the SJHS and the UNC investigation I have found only one thing: Ummmm, that would be YOU THF!

  • ^Very nice, you stole my post. My only recourse is to demand that THF, Davis and Baddour must go. Your blogging gravy train is over my friend.

Just as an aside if you haven’t been over to EDSBS lately the review of SEC media days is pretty fantastic.

On a personal note my high school had one player that had failed so many years that our strategy was to have the guy gut it up the middle as he was nearly 25 years old. We didn’t win many games until we got a new coach. He won the state title but some minor trouble with underage female students sent him packing. Sadly unlike the kids I went to school with his choice was to leave town. If we got into enough trouble the sheriff would come over to the house and offer you a deal. “Son, you can join the military and we let this issue drop or you can go to jail.”

Go Heels or go to jail!

Did you ever spend the night at a friend’s house and not pay him the assumed value of a night’s lodging?

How long before PackPride’s team of fearless Internet sleuths get to the bottom of this?

PRGuy: ok, now you’re responsible for the coffee on my LCD; thanks for the laugh…
