Hoops Q&A with From the Rumble Seat

As has become our tradition whenever UNC hooks up with Georgia Tech, we have participated in a Q&A with the fine Tech blog From the Rumble Seat. Their answers to our questions are below; our answers to their questions can be found here.

Third Time’s the Charm: Hatchell Gets 600th at UNC

The Carolina men’s basketball team wasn’t the only team to get back on track in Blacksburg on Thursday night.

UNC’s women’s team shook off the worst loss in program history (a 51-point beatdown at the hands of UConn) and an upset loss last week to Clemson to claim a 56-37 win over the Hokies and [...]

The Good, Bad, and Ugly Report: Missouri

Well, wasn’t that special?

I tried to share THF’s optimism in the game preview that UNC would want to finish this trying season on a strong note for interim coach Everett Withers and perform well in a de facto tryout for new coach Larry Fedora. Instead, Tar Heel Nation’s worst fears were realized when, after [...]

UNC Suspends Jones, Reinstatement Pending [UPDATED: Jones Cleared by NCAA]

See update at end of post…

In an NCAA eligibility dance Carolina football fans unfortunately know all too well, UNC has suspended senior wideout Dwight Jones for the Independence Bowl after his appearance on a flier for a New Year’s Eve party with Jones being the featured birthday guest.

From the News and Observer:

“Coach [Everett] [...]

Someone Forgot to Tell Dwight Jones to Stay Off Facebook

Oh no, here we go again.

Another UNC football player may have run afoul over NCAA regulations over - get this - a flier for his own birthday party.

Senior wide receiver Dwight Jones is featured on a flier for a Burlington nightclub that is promoting a New Year’s Eve birthday party in Jones’ honor.

Has Holden Thorp Been Vindicated?

On July 28, UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp took a torch to the Butch Davis era at Carolina, firing the coach after the NCAA levied charges of nine major infractions against the football program and the previously unrevealed plagiarism of work produced by Michael McAdoo came to the forefront. Now, barely 4 1/2 months after that [...]

Lots of news on a Friday. Via the ACC:

North Carolina redshirt freshman tailback Giovani Bernard (Davie, Fla.), who rebounded from a severe knee injury to become the nation’s leading freshmen rusher, has been named the recipient of the 2011 Brian Piccolo Award, Atlantic Coast Conference Commissioner John Swofford announced Friday.

The Piccolo Award has [...]

The Good, Bad, and Ugly Report: Duke

Ed. note: Due to unforeseen publishing delays, the GBU Report did not appear in its usual slot on Sunday. Apologies abound — Doc

After a strong 5-1 start in the first half of the season, UNC limped home to a 2-4 finish in the second half, but at least ended on a solid note with [...]
