Dear Aerial Adventures

It is my understanding that you were contracted by UNC to deliver the game ball for kickoff Saturday night at Kenan Stadium and mistakenly ended up landing at Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham instead.  In an effort to avoid a similar mistake in the future allow me to offer these handy satellite photos of the two stadiums available for free on Google should you feel the need to do your homework next time.

KENAN STADIUM

WALLACE WADE STADIUM

Hope that clears things up.

Weather Delay at Kenan[UPDATED]

UPDATE: UNC is not looking so great.  It was 14-14 at half and the Heels offense has been suckity.

UPDATE: Play has resumed at Kenan and the Heels promptly give up a TD.

That was not the sort of lightning and thunder we were expecting.  Heels are up 14-0 with 12:03 remaining in the 2nd quarter.  It has basically been the Brandon Tate Show.  Tate has an 82 yard punt return for at TD and popped off a 54 yard run to set the Heels up in the red zone and TJ Yates hit Brooks Foster for the 2nd TD.  Then the weather got nasty so the delay is in effect until they do not see lightning for 30 mins.  According the live blog at 850 the Buzz, an 8:45 restart is possible.  I do know that here in North Raleigh, things are pretty rough at the moment.

Odds and Ends: Calm Before The Storm Edition

  • Andy Roddick’s girlfriend, Brooklyn Decker has great taste when it comes to hats.
  • LSU has moved the kickoff with their game against Appalachain State to 10 AM CDT to get ahead of TS/Hurricane Gustav.  Apparently the decision was made by former Duke and current LSU AD Joe Alleva.  Just to be clear: Handling false rape allegations against lacrosse players? Sucks.  Handling incoming natural disasters? Gold star.  The upside for App fans is they now have a built in excuse for when reality strikes and they find playing LSU is 2-3 worlds away from playing Michigan.
  • UNC has decided to allow Antonio Pettigrew hang around as an assistant track coach despite his admission he used performance enhancing drugs during his racing days.  Given the fact former Tar Heel Marion Jones was wrapped up in this business(though not while at UNC) I think the smarter decision would be to let Pettigrew go instead of invite the scrutiny.  However, UNC is going the route of the 2nd chance here.  I just hope it does not come back to bite them.
  • Bob Gibbons has ranked UNC’s 2009 class #1 with Roy still trying to secure a commit from Ryan Kelly ranked #12 in the ESPNU 100.  And we thought the 2006 class was something.

What We Learned Last Night

  • Wake Forest looked very, very good.  Yes it was Baylor but the Deacs were on the road and near the end of the 1st half gave up a TD on a turnover to make it 17-6.  WF rolled down the field executing the two minute offense to get a FG and stifle any hope Baylor had.  Deacs end up winning 41-13 and serving notice on the rest of the ACC that they are not to be trifled with.
  • NC State has no offense.  Well, actually they have no offensive line which has a way of ruining most offensive plays when defensive linemen are breaching the backfield with two seconds of the snap.  Turns out that the ineffective play at the line was costly in the form of QB Russell Wilson having his neck turn the wrong way on a pass rush giving him a grade three concussion.  NCSU had a nice little drive working when this happened.  Wilson’s injury and Daniel Evans inability to get anything going made for a long night on defense for the Pack who eventually could do nothing to stop SCAR in the 2nd half.  That in itself was sad considering the Gamecock offense was almost as bad.
  • Can the Paul Johnson offense work at a major DI school?  We really do not know since Georgia Tech did not use the option but a few times in drubbing Jacksonville State.
  • Miami went 52-7 on Charleston Southern and Randy Shannon immediately thanked his suspended players for screwing around prior to this game versus say Florida.

UNC Injury Report For McNeese State

Via ESPN ACC Blog:

UNC

WR Cooter Arnold, ankle, doubtful
DB Charles Brown, ankle, questionable
LB Linwan Euwell, knee, doubtful
DB LeCount Fantroy, hand, questionable
DB Johnny White, thigh, questionable

Charles Brown is the only key player on the list here and his injury has been publicized for some time.  Brown was a starter for most of last season so getting him back would be nice but I would not be surprised to see him limited in this game despite the fact McNeese runs a spread offense with some quality receivers.
