…that I find the fact Bobby Knight is doing color commentary for the Louisville-Old Miss game involving a coach(Rebels’ Andy Kennedy) who was arrested last night for assaulting a cab driver to be deliciously ironic on so many levels.
Maybe Knight can gives us to personal insight into why controlling one’s own rage is such a difficult task.
This is the conclusion of Syracuse’s rather embarrassing loss to Cleveland State last night that it noteworthy because (1) I like watching Jim “Let’s Expand The Tournament Because I Suck At Scheduling” Boeheim suffer and (2) This is the 2nd game winner at the buzzer from half court or longer this season. Xavier beat Virginia Tech with a half court buzzer beater and now this one.
I tend to concur with the headline on this at Awful Announcing. Arizona might be the dumbest basketball team on the planet. Or poorly coached, watch the video after the jump and decide.
Someone posted this link on IC. It is a listing of all the Division I basketball programs and how much they spent in 2007. #1 on the list is Kentucky who spent $9.2 million during the 2007 season. At the very bottom of the list is VMI who spent roughly 1% of Kentucky’s budget on their basketball program, $99,285 to be exact.
How did that translate on the court Friday night?
VMI 111 UK 103
We all know money can’t buy love or happiness. Apparently it cannot buy you a win over a vastly underfunded opponent either.
Just a quick note. The proprietor who runs the excellent college football blog The Wizard of Odds has launched a new college basketball blog as well called The March To Madness. Be sure to check it out.
Actually the score is probably higher for Logic in this particular matchup but here is another ruling from Indianapolis that makes absolutely no sense.
UPDATE: Confirmed by Arizona. According to Gary Parrish, Olson stayed too long at the dance and there were signs as early as the end of the 2007 NCAA Tournament that Olson was not up to the job and possibly dealing with some deterioration of his mental faculties. Now, he walks away with an abrupt bizarreness which robs him of the honor he is due for winning 770 games. Like him or not(and I have never been a fan) winning 770 games and a national title in major college basketball is nothing to sneeze at.
Also, in this lies the cautionary tale about the right time to walk away. Dean chose to leave when he was still going to Final Fours and recruiting top players, I expect Roy to do the same. For Olson, his legacy is damaged to some extent by staying too long and exiting this way which is unfortunate for someone whose accomplishments demanded a better ending to the story.
Former Kansas players Mario Chalmers and Darrell Arthur were tossed out of the NBA rookie transition program. Why? For having pot and women in their hotel room which confused me because I thought that sort of thing was part of the transisting to the NBA. Both will get to make a $20,000 check out to the NBA and could be suspended to start the season.
