Heels Shutout Wake Forest

UNC knocked off Wake Forest 2-0 dropping the Deacs to 0-2 in the ACC Tournament and handing the ACC title game berth to Virginia since the Cavs will hold the tiebreaker over the winner of the FSU-UNC game today.  That affair and the Wake-UVa game will completely meaningless games since neither of the results affect the outcome of the division.

UVa Beats FSU; Ends Heels’ ACC Title Hopes

With a win over FSU today in the ACC Baseball Tournament, UVa moved to 2-0 in the division and eliminated UNC from ACC title contention.  The worst UVa can do now is 2-1 which is the best case for UNC meaning the Cavaliers would win the tiebreaker on the head-to-head and advance to the title game on Sunday.

However, if we employ the Roy Williams ACC Tournament Doctrine(which strikes me as more applicable to baseball than basketball) this is not such a bad thing. Since there is nothing to win, Mike Fox can rest the starters and get ready for the NCAA Regionals.  Granted, the Heels probably need to at least beat Wake Forest tonight but I doubt their NCAA seeding will be impacted much by this event. It would also benefit UNC more to rest players, especially the pitchers since the main goal is a return to the College World Series.

UNC 68 VT 66

Tyler Freaking Hansbrough

That about sums it up. 26 points and nine rebounds to carry the team on a day when Danny Green and Wayne Ellington went MIA(again) for most of the contest. Ellington did decide to show back uplate but got a technical foul for running his mouth. Good thing for him he backed it up by hitting a three to tie the game(not that we condone taunting other players.) Ty Lawson is still not 100% but the look he got into the lane was a good one he just missed the shot. The difference ended up being the fact Hansbrough is relentless and clutch.

Heels advance and in March it matters not one iota how it happens.
